Greatest American Poet

26 04 2007

In my humble opinion,  the greatest American poet is none other than Ogden Nash.  The way he could cleverly bend a lyric into a rhyme is genius. The insight and wisdom so succinctly wrapped into two lines beautiful lines, is almost like humor, itself, has been condensed, the fat boiled away.  And even though the cadence would be the first casualty for the needs of the poem as a whole, that was something that only increased the readers urge to recite them aloud.  They resound with me particularly.   I cannot help but smile when I read them.

I hope you enjoy his poems as well.
